The background is always see-through (transparent PNG).
Patterns, overlays (sparkles), logos, names, a normal map, a finished texture, your reference picture - then use the buttons under each one.
✎ Draw
While Draw is on, dragging on the model or the map paints. Turn it off to turn the item / move stickers again. Hold Shift for a straight line from the last point.
3 Paint parts
↔ Copy one side to the other
The copy is added as a sticker layer ("mirror copy") - hide or delete it in Stickers if you change your mind.
Click the model to choose a part (Shift+click to add more).
Map background (the empty space between the parts - VRFS maps still have the old colours there, and they leak onto the edges in game)
Pick the colour for the empty space
Stripe / band - colour only a slice of the selected parts (stud tips, a collar ring, a toe cap...). Alt+click the studs to select them even under stickers.
Texture inside a colour: pick a colour, then press Paint on a picture with the box ticked - or Paint colour, then Overlay a pattern with blend Light.
4 Stickers
Drag any picture (from your computer or the strip under the map) onto the model or the map. Drag it anywhere, pull the corner to resize, the dot to turn.
5 Look
Makes it look like the game's own renders: the knit, stitching and creases come out.

Finished?
Each card is one item shape (items that share the same 3D model). Click one, then drop, paste (Ctrl+V) or pick your reference render.
It's laid over the 3D model so you can drag the model until it lines up, and use Size / Tilt to match. Save and every item with that shape re-renders at that angle.
The blue Whole category card sets the default for everything in the category that doesn't have its own angle.
